About S.M. Hausen
I was ten years old when my first short story was published in a national children's magazine. From that moment on, I determined to become a writer. Since that time, I've worked my way through mountains of paper, practicing my craft, looking for places I could help others through writing.
Most of my work has been done for local agencies and businesses: newspapers, churches, schools, political campaigns and charitable organizations. My involvement with politics was a great asset when I took on the battle to save my husband. Though I am small, I proved once again that the pen is mightier than the sword as I wrote letters, sent faxes and rallied help.
Later I experimented with various types of journalism, looking for my own niche. I discovered that the best way for me to cope with the increased responsibilities at home was to find the humor in life and laugh. So for many years, I concentrated on humor writing for local use: plays, children's stories, reports on local events that made people laugh. I studied writing with a professional agency. All this was to hone my skills so that one day I could bring you this book, One Step Ahead of the Devil.
One of my favorite things to do is to sit on our deck in the summer evenings and listen to the roar of the wind through the pines while gazing across our view of forests and far mountains. It is a place of peace. Out of that peace comes the strength and inspiration to write.
